First and foremost, coconut milk is not to be confused with coconut water. Coconut milk is the liquid extracted from grated coconut, ensuring that it is rich in essential vitamins and minerals including Vitamin C and E. Basically, coconut milk is a superpower ingredient for healthy skin, bones,  hair and overall wellness. Bonus!

Now if you prefer to DIY, you can make your own coconut milk by adding 4 cups of hot (almost boiling) water to 2 cups of freshly grated coconut in a bowl. Allow the coconut and water to cool down. Then, grab a separate bowl and a sieve lined with 2 layers of cheesecloth, once the water cools down to room temperature be sure to strain the coconut through the sieve over the empty bowl. Gather the cheesecloth with the coconut still in place and squeeze excess liquid into the bowl. Transfer your fresh coconut milk into a bottle and store in the fridge for 4-5 days or in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Now before going ahead and washing your hair, coconut milk is the perfect pre-shampoo component. Before heading in the shower, coat your dry hair with a mixture of 6 tablespoons of coconut milk, 3 tablespoons of coconut oil, and 2 tablespoons of honey. Cover with a plastic cap or cling film and leave to soak up for around 20-30 minutes before washing. This will leave your hair extra conditioned if your strands are prone to dryness.

Of course, you can also use coconut milk as a shampoo, too. All you need to do is cleanse your hair with a mixture of  1 ½  cup of coconut milk with ¾  cup of castile soap, and a tablespoon of Vitamin E oil and wash away. If you have any shampoo left over this can be stored in the fridge for up to a month.

Yup, you probably guessed it - you can use coconut milk as a conditioner too! Simply massage a mixture of 2 tablespoons of coconut milk, 2 tablespoons of your fave conditioner, and 2 tablespoons of your fave hair oil into your locks after shampooing. Rinse and style as usual and say helloooo to super soft, salon worthy hair.

If you suffer from a dry scalp, coconut milk is about to be your new BFF. Heat up ½ cup of coconut milk then massage into scalp. Allow scalp to soak for 30 minutes before rinsing. Then wash and style as normal. Use every week to begin with until your scalp starts to feel hydrated.

Is your hair prone to knots and tangles? Well no more, girls, no more! Not with the help of coconut milk - simply rub coconut milk into your hair and detangle with fingers, brush, or wide-tooth comb. Your hair will be forever thankful and you can wave goodbye to unnecessary breakage, too!

If your hair needs some major TLC, you have to whip up a coconut milk hair mask. Simply whisk together 1 ripe avocado (mashed), 2 tablespoons of coconut or olive oil, and ½ of coconut milk. Apply the mask to your hair and cover for at least an hour. Then, shampoo the mixture out, condition, and style as usual. Oh. and prepare to be impressed with the results, girls!
